SlutWalk at Buffalo State
The Plaza
SlutWalk is a transnational movement of protest marches calling for an end to rape culture, including victim-blaming and slut-shaming of sexual assault victims. The walk aims to promote gender equality and reclaim the derogatory term “slut.” Along with the march across campus, the event will also include food trucks, vendors, games, body painting, guest speakers, and music. All are welcome. The event is part of Buffalo State's observance of Constitution Day 2018.

Wednesday, September 19, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
'Sip and Paint' Paint Night
Assembly Halls 1 and 2
Students will have the chance to create art while enjoying “mocktails” made by the Boujee Bar. A $5 ticket (refunded after the event) reserves a canvas and paint for a fun painting class. Reservation tickets are available at the USG Business office, Campbell Student Union 404.

Thursday, September 20, 12:15 to 1:00 p.m.
Presentation: 'Delightful Landscapes, Immaculate Still Lifes and Miracle-Working Saints: Healing Images in the Late Renaissance'
Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State Executive Board Room
Frances Gage, associate professor of art and design, will consider the ways in which men and women in the late Renaissance believed art objects were healing to their beholders and were integrated into daily lives for preservative effects. The event is free to Buffalo State faculty, students, and staff.

Thursday, September 20, 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.

Buffalo State Pays Tribute to Iron Age with 9th ‘Days of Fire’
Campus House
A piece of the Buffalo State campus will return to the Iron Age September 21–22 during the biennial Days of Fire event (pictured), sponsored by the Patricia H. and Richard E. Garman Art Conservation Department.

Along with the dramatic factor of combining metal and fire, the event is intended to show students and other spectators how iron and other products of “pyrotechnologies” were made centuries ago. Faculty members Jonathan Thornton and Aaron Shugar will oversee art conservation graduate students conducting experimental pyrotechnology events on the lawn next to Campus House. The activities, which are open to the public, include reproducing an Iron Age smelting furnace, copper smelting and casting, and ancient glass bead manufacturing.

On Friday, September 21, the students will build the furnace; they will conduct the smelt on September 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The day will culminate with the extraction of an iron bloom.

For more information, contact the Art Conservation Department at (716) 878-5025.
