A Look Ahead: This Week at Buffalo State

Happy Leap Year! This final week of February is Civic Engagement Week at Buffalo State College, with a full slate of events to provide students, faculty, and staff with the tools to become more civic-minded community members. Follow the conversation on Instagram using #buffstatecounts.

We close out our celebration of Black History Month with a special keynote address, “Race Stupidity,” presented by Crystal M. Fleming, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology and Africana studies at Stony Brook University, on Tuesday, February 25, at 12:15 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center’s Tower Auditorium. Author of the game-changing book How to Be Less Stupid about Race (2018), Fleming uses critical race theory, black feminism, classical sociology, and a brilliant sense of humor to provide a no-holds-barred style of critical analysis to help us solve the race problem once and for all. Her address is free and open to the public.

Here’s a look at some of the other things going on this week. Remember to stay connected all semester long with Life at Buff State on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. And don’t forget the many professional development opportunities (PDF, 132 KB) for Buffalo State faculty and staff members.
