Frequently Asked Questions
Buffalo State University students can now purchase and reload an NFTA MetGo card, previously known as Metro Bus and Rail passes, at the Buffalo State Bookstore. The reloadable NFTA MetGo card costs $2 before loading funds for fares.
Buffalo State University students can use cash, debit card, credit card, or Bengal Bucks. Additionally, students with excess financial aid will be able to purchase and reload a MetGo card using textbook deferment funds through September 20.
Buffalo State offers the textbook deferment program to help students purchase their textbooks and supplies before the start of the semester. Students whose aid exceeds their charges can request a deferment to purchase books at the Buffalo State Bookstore. A deferment is a line of credit that is repaid once the student's aid is disbursed. Funds from this deferment can now be used toward NFTA MetGo card purchases and reloads.
Textbook deferment funds expire September 20. MetGo cards will still be available for purchase after September 20 by cash, debit card, credit card, or Bengal Bucks.

NFTA fare for a single ride is $2. Fares are capped at $5 daily, $25 weekly, and $75 monthly, meaning individuals ride free after reaching those amounts during a specific time period.
You can read more about MetGo cards on the NFTA website.
From the NFTA website: "Paratransit customers must use the MetGo PAL ID card. The MetGo ID is needed to confirm your eligibility for PAL. You can begin using your MetGo PAL card to pay your fare immediately after you load money into your account. On PAL vans, just tap your card on the card reader every time you board. On Metro buses, tap your card on the farebox card reader and show the card to the operator. When using Metro Rail, tap your card at fare gates. You will need to tap out as well."
From the NFTA website: "Call NFTA-Metro Customer Care at (716) 855-7211, TTY/relay 711 or (800) 662-1220."
Buffalo State University aims to utilize programs that benefit the entire student body. There was low and declining use of the partially subsidized NFTA Metro Bus and Rail passes from students. With rising costs of the service, the decision was made to remove this from the undergraduate transportation fee, which has been reduced to $80 for the academic year. The fee now covers the improved intra-campus and grocery route shuttle service that serves resident and commuter students.
