Interactive Synthesizer Orchestra Presents Anima: In Memoriam Takehisa Kosugi

7:30 p.m. 11:57 p.m. Event has no end time
7:30 p.m. | Louis P. Ciminelli Recital Hall

The Digital Music Production program at Buffalo State College presents "Anima" a memorial concert honoring the legacy of Japanese composer Takehisa Kosugi (1938-2018), played by the Interactive Synthesizer Orchestra.  Kosugi, who passed away in October, was the music director of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company for nearly two decades, and was also known for his improvisations which featured electronic instruments, found objects, and violin. Presenting two of the composer's fluxus event scores, as well as an extended improvisation based on his work with the Taj Mahal Travellers, the ensemble will explore experimental avenues of sound creation, listening, and performance. The concert will also feature a new piece by ISO director Ethan Hayden, and a collaborative hip hop work composed by members of the ensemble.

The Buffalo State Interactive Synthesizer Orchestra is an ensemble specializing in the creation and manipulation of musical sound through the use of analog and digital synthesizers.  The ensemble consists of a select group of students who have studied sound synthesis in the Music Department's Digital Music Production program, and who are experienced in the history, theory, and practice of wide variety of synthesis techniques. The ISO is directed by Ethan Hayden, and is one of only a handful of ensembles in the United States that regularly performs on analog synthesizers.
