7:00 p.m. 9:30 p.m. End Time
7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. | Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State

Beyond Boundaries Dare to Be Diverse Screening and Discussion presents Free Angela and All Political Prisoners (2013), directed by Shola Lynch.

"Lynch's film leaves no stone unturned as it explores every remarkable detail of Davis' life, and allows her to tell her own stories through a series of intimate interviews." - Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Four decades before the Black Lives Matter movement, Civil Rights leader and Black Panther ally Angela Davis was branded by the US government as a terrorist. Charged with multiple felonies, the young philosophy professor was ultimately acquitted of charges and emerged as one of the twentieth-centuries great public intellectuals. This documentary tells her story.

Writer/director Lynch is known for her Peabody Award-winning 2004 documentary Chisholm '72: Unbought and Unbossed, on the political career of Shirley Chisholm.

Beyond Boundaries is curated by Jason Parker and professors Ruth Goldman, Meg Knowles, and Michael Niman and is sponsored by Buffalo State’s Equity and Campus Diversity Office, Communication Department, Women & Gender Studies Minor, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
