Education on the Westside, Buffalo, NY: 11 students will be volunteering with Journey's End Refugee Service's MAC program, Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy, Community Academic Center, and the Salvation Army. This AB experience centers on learning about urban education on Buffalo's Westside, particularly the prominence of English Language Learners. Students will have the opportunity to serve as teachers in the afterschool program at the CAC, support the bilingual newspaper project at Herman Badillo, and provide enrichment experiences for the 16-21 year olds enrolled in the MAC program.
Conserving the Environment, Delaplane, VA: 11 students will travel to the Blue Ridge Mountains to volunteer with Sky Meadows State Park. On this AB, students will learn about conservation and resources management within the park’s natural environment. Students will have the opportunity to assist Sky Meadows with spring tree planting, invasive species control and removal, as well as lend their hand to assist with other environmental concerns.
