Zemsky Appointed Chair of Buffalo State College Council

Posted: February 2, 2012

Howard Zemsky, managing partner of the Larkin Development Group, has been appointed chair of the Buffalo State College Council by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Zemsky succeeds John Hoskins, who served as chair of the College Council from 1998 to 2011.

A member of the Buffalo State College Council since 2004, Zemsky is deeply committed to Western New York, serving as president of the Richardson Center Corporation, as a commissioner of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, and as co-chair of the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council.

“Howard Zemsky is a vocal champion for Buffalo and Buffalo State who is incredibly enthusiastic about the future of our university and our region,” said Buffalo State president Aaron Podolefsky. “We are fortunate to have him as our new College Council chair, just as we have been fortunate to enjoy John Hoskins’s leadership in that position over the last 13 years.”

“I am very proud and honored to be appointed by Governor Cuomo as chair of the Buffalo State College Council,” Zemsky said. “I am looking forward to continuing to work with the members of the College Council; the administration; faculty, students, and staff; and the Buffalo community to advance SUNY’s only urban college campus. Buffalo State College is a remarkable institution with a proud history, great values, and a very bright future. What an honor indeed.”

Zemsky serves on the boards of the Michigan Street Preservation Commission, Buffalo Place, and the Martin House Restoration Corporation, where he was president of the board for five years. He is a director of Medical Recovery Management LLC and MOD-PAC Corp. and a member of the advisory board of First Niagara Financial Group.

In addition to his service as a member of the College Council, Zemsky supported Buffalo State as chair of the 2010 Presidential Search Advisory Committee and as co-chair of the Buffalo State College Foundation Scholarship Gala in 2009 and 2010.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester. He and his wife, Leslie, have lived in Buffalo for more than 25 years. They have three children.
