Posted: October 14, 2005
Buffalo State (6-6-2/2-5-1) kept its playoff hope alive with a 1-1 tie at second-place Geneseo (6-5-1/5-1-1) today in a SUNYAC contest.

Both goals came in a span of 23 seconds in the game's 64th minute. Gina Monaco (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) gave the Bengals the lead, capitalizing on a Geneseo turnover in front of its net. The Knights evened the score on a cross shortly after the ensuing restart.

Geneseo held a 20-8 advantage in shots. Buffalo State's Katie Melsert (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa) made nine saves.

A penalty kick shootout was held for tiebreaker purposes after the game was completed, and Buffalo State prevailed 5-4.

The tie was the first between the two teams in 25 meetings. Geneseo had won the previous 24 meetings.

Buffalo State will play at Brockport tomorrow at 1 p.m.
