MEADVILLE, Pa.—Junior Shantel Ackley (Baldwinsville/CW Baker) scored five times and freshman Stephanie Georgopolous (Pt. Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) had four goals and two assists as Buffalo State (1-0) raced past host Allegheny (0-1), 20-11, today in the season opener for both teams.
Freshman Katie Henderson (Lakeview/Frontier) added four goals for the Bengals. Molly Siefritz (Syracuse/Henninger) had two goals and an assist, and senior Leah Bernal (Marilla/Iroquois) also scored twice. Katie Lyons (Williamsville/Williamsville North) notched a goal and two assists, and Jen Tierney (Massapequa/Massapequa) and Kember Greco (Southampton/Southampton) added a goal apiece in the win.
Buffalo State dominated the opening 30 minutes of play, jumping out to a 15-4 halftime advantage, before cruising to the victory. The Bengals outshot Allegheny, 37-22, and forced 26 turnovers, compared to just 15 committed.
Buffalo State will open the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday against RIT at 4 p.m.
