The English Beat to Headline Oct. 27 Concert

Posted: August 6, 2007
Buffalo State College’s WBNY-FM 91.3 is bringing back one of the first bands it ever presented on campus as The English Beat will perform on Oct. 27 at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall.

The English Beat, which headlined the first WBNY sponsored show in April 1983, is considered one of the most popular and influential bands of the British ska movement. Still fronted by founding member Dave Wakeling, The English Beat is best known for hit songs such as “Tears of a Clown,” “Mirror in the Bathroom,” and “Save it for Later.”

Tickets for the Oct. 27 concert go on sale Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. and may be purchased at the Rockwell Hall box office, by phone at (716) 878-3005 or online at www.ticketguys.com/buffalostate. The Rockwell Hall box office is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. All seats for the show, which begins at 8 p.m., are $20.

The concert is part of WBNY’s New Media Weekend, a celebration of 25 years as Buffalo’s Original Alternative. The four-day event, which is sponsored by WBNY, the WBNY Alumni Chapter, the Buffalo State College Alumni Association, VH1 and VH1.com, takes place Oct. 25-28. The weekend will feature national and local media experts who will explore and discuss the future of media through panels and speaking engagements. Events will be open to Buffalo State students, faculty, staff and the general public.
