Visual Arts Workshops Designed for High School Students

Posted: April 5, 2016

Buffalo State’s visual arts departments are co-hosting free workshops for high school students on Saturday, April 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in several rooms throughout Upton Hall.

Workshops will include iron-casting, animation, ceramics, fibers, woodworking, printmaking, drawing/painting, and jewelry-making. Students and their families can participate in one or several of the workshops offered.

“The workshops will give high school students the opportunity to meet faculty and students working in the various visual arts disciplines and learn more about what Buffalo State has to offer,” said Brent Patterson, assistant professor of communication design and one of the workshop organizers. “Students also can have their portfolios reviewed by our faculty and receive valuable feedback about their work.”

This is a first-time initiative intended as a welcoming event for high school students and their parents. In conjunction with the workshops, the college will host its first high school exhibition, showcasing artwork from Western New York students.

“This will be a great opportunity to see the budding talent from students in the area,” Patterson said.
