Two Buffalo State Professors Named Fulbright Scholars

Posted: November 19, 2001
Two Buffalo State College professors have been awarded Fulbright Scholar grants. John F. Beaver, professor of elementary education and reading, recently completed a term at the University of Jayewardenepura, Nugegoda, Sri Lanka, where he lectured on educational technology and instructional technology to improve the teaching and learning process. Harriet Blitzer Watrous, assistant professor of fine arts, will lecture at the University of Athens, Athens, Greece, on the ethnoarchaeology of modern Greece from February-June 2002.

This year, approximately 800 faculty and professionals throughout the United States received Fulbright grants to lecture or conduct research abroad. A similar number of visiting scholars received awards to come to the United States primarily as researchers. These current Fulbright scholars join the approximately 82,000 U.S. and foreign scholars who have participated in the program since its inception in 1946. The Fulbright Scholar Program is sponsored by the United States Department of State, with additional funding from participating governments and host institutions in the United States and abroad.
