Three-Part Series on "Understanding Our Neighbor's Faith" Starts Nov. 7

Buffalo State College will present a three-part series on "Understanding Our Neighbor's Faith: Defining and Experiencing Islam from the Muslim Perspective." The first program, a panel discussion entitled "Understanding the Islamic Faith," will be presented Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. in the Student Union Assembly Hall on the campus at 1300 Elmwood Ave.

Panelists include Dr. Othman Shibly, a University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine lecturer; Nadia Nashir, a Buffalo State College student; and Zayad Bilal (Ken Robinson), an assistant Imam at Masjid Nu'man and chaplain at the Erie County Holding Center.

At 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, participants will visit a local masjid for "Experiencing the Islamic Faith." Bus transportation from the campus (at Cleveland Circle) will be provided. Modest dress with the covering of hair for all females is respectfully required.

The final program, "Building Bridges Through Interfaith Dialogue," a panel discussion with members of the campus and community, will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in the Student Union Assembly Hall.

All events are free of charge and open to the public.

"Understanding Our Neighbor's Faith: Defining and Experiencing Islam from the Muslim Perspective" is sponsored by Buffalo State College's Minority Student Services Office, the Coalition Building Team and International Student Affairs Office. Funding is provided by the President's Council for Equity and Campus Diversity, Residence Life and the Auxiliary Services Grant Allocation Committee.
