Swimming and Diving Completes Last Day of SUNYAC Championships; Rutkowski Wins Second SUNYAC Title

Freshman diver Nicole Rutkowski (Williamsville/Williamsville North) took home her second SUNYAC title of the week, placing first on the one-meter board in the last night of competition of the SUNYAC Championships at the Flickinger Aquatic Center this evening.

Rutkowski captured the title with a score of 369.85, after capturing her first SUNYAC title on the three-meter this past Thursday. Freshman Amanda Dory (Amherst/Sweet Home) finished with a score of 344.30 on the one-meter, landing her in second place.

Sara Weinert (Byron/Byron-Bergen) placed seventh in the 1650 free, while setting a new school record with a time of 18:42.66. Weinert broke the old school record of 18:49.16 set by teammate Mindy Wood in 2004.

On the men’s side, senior Bret Stodolka (Darien/Alexander) placed fourth on the three-meter board with a total of 400.95. Junior Rich Gaczewski (North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda) took fourth place in the 1650 free with a time of 17:34.09 while sophomore Eric Hastings (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) posted a time of 17:40.74 earning him fifth place in the same event.

Both the men’s and women’s teams posted a sixth place finish in the nine-team competition. Sixth place is the best finish for the women's team in three years, improving from their ninth place finish last season. The men finished with 275 points while the women finished with 239.
