Swedish School of Textiles Students Visit Buffalo State

Posted: April 7, 2009
Five students from the Swedish School of Textiles in Boras, Sweden, are visiting the Buffalo area for three weeks of field research. The students will present, “Project Dignity—The Swedish School of Textiles," on Thursday, April 9, at 12:15 p.m. in Caudell Hall 212.

Project Dignity investigates different aspects of the humanistic implications of the global textile industry. Working under the direction of Dr. Clemens Thornquist, chair of Fashion Design at the Swedish School of Textiles, students Karin Wallin, Matilda Strandell, Cherie Huisman, Sofie Karlsson, and Charlotta Mattsson have traveled to Western New York to study the secondhand market in Buffalo and determine what role an economic downturn plays in creative development.
While in Buffalo, the students have interacted with their counterparts from Buffalo State’s fashion and textile technology program. The visiting students attended Dr. Vicky Oh’s Fashion Trend class, toured the fashion program classrooms, and previewed the fashion collections being considered for the upcoming RUNWAY 2.0 fashion show (to be held Saturday, April 25).
