Students Showcase Creations at Computer Science Education Week Celebration

Posted: December 7, 2016

Members of the Buffalo State campus and community at large have the opportunity to see the multimedia websites, interactive digital stories, and computer apps students in the Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department have created during a celebration of Computer Science Education Week on Thursday, December 8. Approximately 50 students will demonstrate their work between 12:15 and 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Technology Building.

One of the purposes of the demonstration is to attract more students to the CIS discipline and let them know about opportunities to get involved such as the Women in Computing Club and Service Learning in Computing course, noted Sarbani Banerjee, professor of CIS.

The annual celebration also provides a chance to highlight the job opportunities available in the computer industry.

“By the end of this decade, one of every two jobs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) will be in computing,” Banerjee said. “The computer industry is growing so rapidly that there is a shortage of professionals prepared to fill the jobs.”

The celebration will include refreshments for visitors and the chance to enter a raffle prize drawing sponsored by McGraw Hill.
