Posted: March 27, 2005
Buffalo State ran its hot start to 6-0, registering victories over Thomas (ME), 11-1, and D'Youville, 1-0, today at the Lee County Sports Complex in Ft. Myers, Fla.

Buffalo State needed just five innings in the opener to dispose of Thomas for the second consecutive day. The Bengals belted 11 hits and plated 11 runs. Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) led the way with a 3-for-4 performance that included a single, double, triple and three RBIs. Freshman Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 2 with her first career homerun. Brooke Matheis (Hamburg/Williamsville South) and Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) added two hits each. Senior Melissa Balsavage (Depew/Depew) earned her second win of the season, allowing just three hits and no earned runs.

In the late game, Buffalo State finally broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Heidi Rammacher (Angola/Lakeshore) RBI single that scored Hutten who reached on an error. The one run was all the support pitcher Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster). She tossed a complete game, one-hitter with 11 strikeouts to earn her third win of the season. Hillary South took the hard-luck loss on the mound for D'Youville, striking out 10 and allowing no earned runs.

Buffalo State will continue its spring trip on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Southern Maine with the first pitch at 11 a.m.
