Buffalo State extended its record to 4-0 today in Ft. Myers, Fla., defeating Southern Maine, 2-1, and Thomas (ME), 8-0, in five innings.

In the first game of the day, Buffalo State broke open in scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning when Heidi Rammacher (Angola/Lakeshore) and Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) each drove in runs. Southern Maine retaliated with a run of its own in the seventh, but stranded runners on second and third, and the Bengals escaped with the one-run victory. Brooke Matheis (Hamburg/Williamsville South) was 1 for 1 with a double for one of just four Buffalo State hits. Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) earned her second win of the season on the mound, pitching two innings, allowing one run. Lauren Wright (Westfield/Westfield) started the game and threw five scoreless innings allowing just three hits. Wright was also 1 for 2 at the plate.

The Bengals cruised to victory in the second game, needing just five innings to earn the win. Freshman Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) earned her first win, allowing just two hits. She also helped her cause at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance with two RBIs. Rammacher was also 2 for 2 with a three-run homerun and four RBIs in the game.

Buffalo State will return to Lee County tomorrow for a pair of games against Thomas at 9 a.m. and D'Youville at 1 p.m.
