Softball Splits Doubleheader at RIT

ROCHESTER, NY--Buffalo State (12-4) and RIT (8-8) braved the elements today and split a non-conference doubleheader with host RIT taking the first game, 5-3, and Buffalo State retaliating to win the night cap, 8-3.

In the opener, RIT jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and held on for the win. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) was 1 for 3 with two RBIs for the Bengals. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs, striking out five.

In the late game, the Bengals used a five-run fourth inning to catapult to the 8-3 win. Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) was 4 for 5 with two RBIs to lead the Buffalo State offense. Lindsey Matheis (Hamburg/Williamsville South) was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Jolene and Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) were both 2 for 4. Sabuda earned the win, allowing five hits and struck out three.

Buffalo State is slated to host SUNYAC-rival Oneonta on Friday in a twin bill at 3 and 5 p.m.
