Posted: May 5, 2007
CORTLAND, NY—Plattsburgh (31-11) used a three-run homerun in the fifth-inning to vault in front of Buffalo State (27-11) and pulled away to claim a 6-3 victory to eliminate the Bengals from the SUNYAC Championships today at Cortland.

Plattsburgh finally opened the scoring in the top of the fifth inning with a two-out three-run homerun, after a pair of base hits to start the inning. The Bengals scored one run in the bottom of the inning when Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) hit a double that scored Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier). Buffalo State had a runner on second with no outs in the sixth, but could not get her around. Plattsburgh added three insurance runs in the seventh inning with a two-out double that scored runners from second and third, followed by a run-scoring single. Fisher hit a two-run homerun to give the Bengals life in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bengals could not continue the rally.

Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 2 with a double, and Sabuda was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Fisher finished 1 for 2 with her third homerun of the tournament. She also took the loss on the mound, allowing nine hits and six runs with six strikeouts.
