Buffalo State pounded 12 hits and raced to a 10-1 victory in five innings in the opener that was highlighted by Nicole Maher’s (Waterloo/Waterloo) first career homerun, a three run shot as part of a five-run fourth inning. Maher was 3 for 3 and added five RBIs. Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) was also 3 for 3 with a double and three runs scored. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 3. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) was dominant in the circle, allowing just one hit, a solo-homerun, and registered 14 of the game’s 15 outs by strikeout.
In the nightcap, Banach led the Bengals to the 6-1 win, going 2 for 3 with a homerun and three RBIs. Jess Less (Blasdell/Frontier) was 2 for 2 with two runs scored. Becky Shank (Williamsville/Williamsville East) was 2 for 3. Jenna Schwartzmeyer (Williamsville/Williamsville South) earned the win, allowing just four hits and no earned runs, and had six strikeouts. She also helped herself at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Buffalo State will host No. 16 Plattsburgh tomorrow in another SUNYAC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
