In the News: 'Four Generations Reflect Family Tradition at Buffalo State'

Posted: May 27, 2015

Buffalo State’s 143rd Commencement ceremonies not only celebrated the accomplishments of nearly 2,500 students, it also continued an important tradition for one local family.

In a recent article, Buffalo News reporter Jay Tokasz chronicled the journey of four generations of Buffalo State alumnae.

Veva (Cornwell) Wilson graduated from the Buffalo Normal School in 1912 with a bachelor of science in education. Wilson’s daughter, Carol (Wilson) Kresses, earned bachelor of science and master of science in education degrees from the State Teachers College in 1956. Kresses’s daughter, Kolette (Kresses) Piasecki, obtained a bachelor of arts in psychology in 1988, went on to law school, and is now an attorney. Paige Piasecki, who earned a bachelor of science in education in 2014, has maintained her family's Bengal tradition.

Piasecki plans to become a teacher, thus further tracing the path followed by her beloved grandmother.

“She’s the one who inspired me,” Piasecki told the News. “She was so proud of me for following in her footsteps.”
