The Cardinals hit 33 of 46 from the charity stripe, compared to just 10 of 14 shooting by the Bengals as Buffalo State committed 30 fouls to Plattsburgh’s 13. The Cardinals also owned the Bengals on the glass, outrebounding Buffalo State, 42-28.
Anthony Williams led Plattsburgh with 23 points, including 14 from the free throw line. Khylan Hunt had 17 points and nine rebounds, and Travis Gorham added 14 points and 13 boards.
Senior PeeWee Guiden (Bronx/Wade Hampton) led Buffalo State with 13 points. Fellow seniors Dante Griggs (Chester/Chester Academy) and Jay Wingate (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) added 12 and 10 points respectively.
Plattsburgh led 34-28 at halftime and never trailed in the second half, despite a late scare from the Bengals. The Cardinals pulled in front by as many as 17, but the Bengals stormed back and cut the deficit to 67-65 with 2:35 remaining. A technical foul on Buffalo State just six second later turned the tide, however, triggering a 13-4 run by the Cardinals to put the game out of reach.
Plattsburgh advances to the semifinals to face Oswego on Friday.
