A Look Ahead: This Week at Buffalo State

As we head into the second half of the fall semester, there are still plenty of events to attend on campus. From musical performances to Halloween parties, here’s a look at what’s happening this week:

Academic Opportunities Fair

It's almost time to register for spring 2019. Before you register, learn about the various majors, minors, careers, internships, clubs, tutoring, and research opportunities that the college offers during the first Academic Opportunities Fair. Free pizza!

Buffalo City Mission Holiday Meal Bag Decorating
Breezeway between South Wing and Twin Rise
Faculty, staff, and students: Want to help the Buffalo-Niagara community this fall? Join the members of the Student Civic Leadership Board to work on a brief, one-hour service project benefiting the Buffalo City Mission. This service project will help bring joy to hundreds of individuals in the Buffalo-Niagara region this upcoming holiday season.

Focus on Repertoire: The Gypsy Influence with The Docenko Bros
Louis P. Ciminelli Recital Hall
The Docenko Brothers present an evening on the influence of folk music and gypsy performance in classical music. This presentation-based recital is sure to inform and please. Campbell Student Union lobby
Join United Students Government for a few hours of Halloween fun. There will be music, games, and treats.

The Color Purple
Upton Hall, Warren Enters Theatre
Buffalo State’s Casting Hall Production presents The Color Purple November 1-3 and November 7-10 at 8:00 p.m. and November 10 at 2:00 p.m. in Upton Hall's Warren Enters Theatre. Based upon Alice Walker’s novel, The Color Purple was made into a Tony Award-winning musical and tells the story of a poor African American woman in the rural South who finds love and the importance of her own voice. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for seniors age 62 and up and $10 for Buffalo State faculty, staff, and alumni; and $6 for Buffalo State students. Conference: Data Strategy and Governance - Embracing Best Practices
Jacqueline Vito LoRusso Alumni and Visitor Center
This conference includes industry presenters, guided roundtable work-groups, networking opportunities, and breakfast/lunch/snacks. Data strategy and governance is essential within all levels of organizations. Data abundance brings benefits for data-driven decision-making and also poses challenges due to legal, regulatory, financial, logistical, political, ethical and social implications. Learn more about how to identify needs and create structure in organizations. Connect with other professionals for targeted discussions. Open to everyone.

Garman Art Conservation Department Fall Open House
Rockwell Hall
The Garman Art Conservation Department will open its doors for its annual Fall Open House. The Open House gives visitors a peek into the world of art and cultural heritage conservation. Come and see what students and faculty have been conserving this past year and take a tour of the many studios and labs. This year, the Art Conservation Department is partnering with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery's First Friday event to feature free gallery admission from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and special tours for Open House guests. With a musical career spanning more than 35 years, guitarist, sonic innovator, and two-time Grammy nominee, Tim Reynolds, is known for his uncanny ability to improvise on any instrument he touches.
