A Look Ahead: This Week at Buffalo State

From lectures to workshops to concerts, there's a lot happening on campus. Here’s a look at some of this week's highlights.

Htein Lin Lecture Series: A Political Prisoner's Artistic Expressions During Long-Term Incarceration
Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State
As part of a lecture series made possible by the Buffalo State College Grant Allocation Committee (GAC), and the Burchfield Penney Art Center in collaboration with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Burmese artist and former political prisoner Htein Lin will discuss his artistic expressions during long-term incarceration, his battle against censorship, and the role of the international community in Burma's current political situations.

Take Back the Night
Campbell Student Union Social Hall
Buffalo State’s Weigel Health Promotions will host “Take Back the Night.” The free annual event seeks to provide resources and raise awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence through student dance, music, poetry, and theater performances. Vivaldi’s Bassoon featuring Ellen Barnum
Ciminelli Recital Hall
Ellen Barnum, lecturer of music and substitute player with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform Vivaldi’s Bassoon. Her performance is part of the college’s Faculty and Friends series. Collaborative Electroacoustic Music Series: Concert IV
Ciminelli Recital Hall
The fourth edition of the Collaborative Electroacoustic Music Concert Series will bring together faculty and student composers from SUNY Buffalo State’s program in Digital Music and SUNY Fredonia’s program in music composition. Admission is free and open to everyone.

Bodies Speak: Dance is Universal Expression
Upton Hall Warren Enters Theatre
Bodies Speak: Dance is Universal, this year’s spring performance choreographed by Buffalo State dance faculty, will be held April 11-13 at 8:00 p.m. and April 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Warren Enters Theatre in Upton Hall. The public is invited to witness dance as a kinesthetic art, a way of knowing, thinking, communicating, translating, and creating. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for children, seniors, Buffalo State faculty, staff, and alumni, and $8 for Buffalo State students with ID. Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes
Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall
Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes first achieved prominence in the mid-1970s, emerging from the same New Jersey Shore music scene as his now legendary contemporary and friend Bruce Springsteen. Boney James
Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall
We know that so many people missed Boney's sold-out show with us last year that we are bringing him back! Four-time Grammy Award nominee and multi-platinum musician Boney James will stop in Buffalo for his Honestly Tour Spring 2019. Having already played over seventy dates since the record's release, the dynamic saxophonist is adding an additional 20 dates for April 2019 and the Performing Arts Center is one of the lucky shows.
