Jazz, Wind Ensembles Present Free Concerts

Posted: February 21, 2012

The Buffalo State Jazz and Wind ensembles will present two free concerts in February at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall.

The Jazz Ensemble will perform traditional and contemporary jazz standards at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 23. The Wind Ensemble will perform a classic wind band repertoire, along with a new piece called “Stomp” composed by David Biedenbender, at 7:30 p.m. February 29.

Describing the “Stomp” piece, Rick Fleming, associate professor of music, who is directing both ensembles, said: “The driving rhythms and boisterous articulations give the listener a feeling of a New Orleans’ jam fest on Saturday night.”

Both concerts are free and open to the public and are part of Buffalo State's Year of the Arts celebration. To learn more, call (716) 878-3005.
