Jazz Legend Randy Weston Delivers Lecture: November 17

Posted: November 16, 2011

Music lovers have the opportunity to hear from one of jazz’s best—Randy Weston—during a free lecture and meet-the-artist reception, Thursday,  November 17, at noon in Rockwell Hall 124.

The 85-year-old musician will talk about his storied career and perform jazz melodies on the piano as part of a three-day visit orchestrated primarily by Buffalo’s Langston Hughes Institute. The center invited the renowned musician to visit the city to connect with young people, perform in different venues, and promote his recently published autobiography, African Rhythms.

The Buffalo State Student Life Office provided the financial support to make Weston’s campus visit possible.

Weston, who resides in Brooklyn when he isn’t traveling the globe, will also give a workshop for students at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, 450 Masten Avenue, on Friday, November 18, at 9:30 a.m.

His other Buffalo performances include:

November 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Colored Musicians Club, 145 Broadway.

November 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, 1285 Elmwood Avenue. Performance and book signing. Admission is $30 for the general public and $15 for students.

November 19 at 11:00 a.m. Free music symposium. University at Buffalo, Allen Hall, South Campus, 3435 Main Street. Advanced registration is required. (716) 844-8831.

November 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Lecture and performance. General public admission is $30 and $15 for students.
