Interior Design Student Show Opens January 25

Posted: January 20, 2012

Buffalo State interior design students learn how to arrange residential and commercial spaces, plan office interiors, as well as design furniture and lightening. These students will show off their skills during the annual Interior Design Student Show, January 25–February 10 in Upton Hall's Czurles-Nelson Gallery.

“It is an honor to be in the show, so the chance to exhibit their work is a great motivation for the students to do the very best work possible,” said Jörg Schnier, chair of the exhibition committee and associate professor of interior design.

The students will exhibit two- and three-dimensional projects in different analogue and digital media that include market renderings, residential design, commercial design, public building retail space, office planning, and lighting design. Interior design faculty chose the work out of many submissions from the 100-student department.

“The selection process is rather competitive,” Schnier said. “Each faculty member can suggest some piece from his or her classes that are then evaluated by a faculty committee to ensure that only the best quality of works will be included.”

The education experience extends beyond just making the work for the show. Students also learn by setting up the exhibition, Schnier pointed out.

“After all, it is an applied interior design project,” he said. “In the process they learn a lot about professional presentation and visual communication of their projects. And probably most important of all, it is just very gratifying to see the scope of excellent work being done by our students.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public during gallery hours: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A closing reception will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 10.
