The Great Lakes Center at Buffalo State presented its 2016–2017 Annual Report on Thursday, October 12, at the center’s field station. The location gave attendees the chance to see the new boat launch and improved dock, which were completed over the summer.

Highlights of the Great Lakes Center’s report

  • the publication of 9 peer-reviewed papers
  • numerous presentations, including 24 at national, international, and/or regional conferences
  • submission of 11 grant proposals
  • funding for nine projects, including multi-year grants, for a total of $8.7 million, with $4.6 million for Buffalo State
  • increased enrollment in the Great Lakes ecosystem science graduate programs

The mission of the Great Lakes Center is to “improve the quality of the environment by providing the best possible science to decision-makers concerned with the health and sustainability of resources, with a primary focus within the Great Lakes and their watersheds.” Alexander Karatayev is the director of the Great Lakes Center.
