Event Celebrates Scholarship Recipients and Benefactors

Posted: October 8, 2015

On Saturday, October 3, Buffalo State hosted the second annual Scholar and Donor Breakfast for more than 350 attendees. Scholarship recipients, donors, and their families filled Campbell Student Union Social Hall to kick off Homecoming and Family Weekend 2015.

Hosted by President Katherine S. Conway-Turner, the event celebrated Buffalo State’s scholarship recipients and the benefactors who enhance, encourage, and empower their lives. James O. Grunebaum, professor emeritus of philosophy, provided remarks and represented donors who make privately-funded scholarships—including the Grunebaum Family All College Honors Fund—possible.

Scholarship recipients Alyn Avila, Jeremiah Perez-Torres, and Corey Grant each spoke with heartfelt gratitude, thanking donors for their investment in higher education. The program ended with a performance from the Buffalo State Dance Company, as dancers gracefully shaped letters spelling “enhance,” “encourage,” “empower,” and “thank you.”

Buffalo State’s enrollment is nearly 11,000 students. Of those students, 84 percent receive financial assistance. More than 200 privately-funded scholarships provide students with 500+ scholarship opportunities, ranging from $250 to $7,000.
