Digital Music Ensemble, Dancers Perform at Cornell University

Posted: May 27, 2014

Last November, SUNY Buffalo State’s Digital Music Ensemble (DME) teamed with dancers in the Theater Department to present a show at the Performing Arts Center featuring works of the seminal German band Kraftwerk. It was so well-received that DME director Tomás Henriques and choreographer Carlos Jones proposed repeating the performance at SUNY’s Conference on Instruction and Technologies (CIT), which will be held May 29 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Additionally, the DME will present an electronic and jazz fusion solo performance.

Proposed as part of the work being developed through a SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grant (IITG), the performance was selected as the entertainment for the three-day conference. Eight DME musicians, including Henriques, and four dancers are participating in the 8:00 p.m. performance in the 1,200-seat Bailey Hall on the Cornell campus.

“This is exciting for our students on many levels,” Henriques said. “It gives them a lot of visibility from an audience doing cutting-edge work in technology throughout SUNY.”

Established in 1992 by the SUNY Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching and Technology, the annual CIT conference provides a way for faculty and instructional support professionals to share experiences and expertise, brainstorm, and explore ways to improve and learn with technology.
