Posted: May 8, 2015

Stephanie Kahn has earned a bachelor of science degree in dietetics and a bachelor of fine arts degree in metals/jewelry, with minors in sociology and creative studies, attaining a 3.63 GPA.

Kahn will receive the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence during the 10:00 a.m. baccalaureate ceremony at Buffalo State’s 143rd Commencement, Saturday, May 16, in the Sports Arena.

Competent and creative, Kahn is a highly focused, self-directed individual who fully engages the learning process. Whether in the classroom or in a clinical setting, she has the ability and confidence to grasp complex concepts, think quickly, exercise excellent judgment, and follow through with sound decisions. She has shared her expertise with others as a presenter at the annual Student Research and Creativity Celebration.

She has displayed diverse academic interests throughout her college career and has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in academic pursuits as a student in the Muriel A. Howard Honors Program. She has completed several small grants and the summer research fellowship through the Undergraduate Research Office. She has also been recognized for her achievements with membership in Sigma Alpha Pi, the national honor society of leadership and success, and Alpha Lambda Delta, the national first-year honor society.

Outside the classroom, she was active on campus with Students Involved in the Art of Metalsmithing (vice president), the Nutrition Club, the Wilderness and Adventure Club, and the Rotoract Club. She was also a first-year mentor and apartment assistant for four years, an orientation leader, a student ambassador, and a conference assistant.

In addition, her citizenship and leadership are reflected in her volunteer work as a nutrition education coordinator for the Priscilla Project for pregnant refugee women, a site coordinator of Community Service Day, facilitator of the 2012 Anne Frank Project’s “Reversing Negativity” interactive installation, and a Girl Scouts troop assistant. She also coordinated and performed in flute concerts at various senior citizen homes, and organized several social activities for mentally and physically disabled adults.
