Burchfield Penney Concert with Mary Ramsey and Friends and Museum Store Open House

Posted: December 9, 2011

What better way to ring in the holidays than with a concert and gift store sales?

The Burchfield Penney Art Center offers both on Friday, December 9, when folk group Mary Ramsey and Friends perform during the Holiday Happy Hour from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Museum Store is hosting its second annual Open House featuring new works by Western New York artists, holiday promotions, gift membership specials, and free gift wrapping.

Buffalo native Mary Ramsey, the lead singer-violist for the alternative rock group 10,000 Maniacs, along with fellow musicians John Lombardo and Nelson Starr, will perform a mix of traditional Celtic music, holiday favorites, and selections from its celebrated body of self-penned songs. Ramsey and Lombardo, of the critically acclaimed folk duo John & Mary, have been writing and performing music together for over two decades.

Lombardo was a founding guitarist and songwriter with 10,000 Maniacs. Ramsey took the vocal lead of the 10,000 Maniacs in early 1994 after Natalie Merchant’s departure and can be heard on the albums, Love Among the Ruins and The Earth Pressed Flat.

A violist by training, Ramsey, has worked with such well-known artists as Billy Bragg, Alex Chilton, Warren Zevon, Jules Shear, Jackson Browne, and Buffalo’s Ani DiFranco and the Goo Goo Dolls.

Admission is free for Burchfield Penney members and $10 for the general public. (716) 878-4529.
