Buffalo State Offers Significant Alternative to Study Abroad

Posted: November 21, 2001
Among the many unique programs available to them, Buffalo State college students can take advantage of the only comprehensive domestic college exchange program in the country, with more than 174 campuses in 49 states, three U.S. territories and three Canadian provinces. Instead of crossing oceans, the students cross state, regional and cultural borders in North America to take courses or to look at graduate or career opportunities in areas they might consider for future living.

The National Student Exchange program has been housed at Buffalo State since 1982; since then more than 1,000 Buffalo State students have taken advantage of the full resources of campuses across the country, saving thousands of dollars in tuition costs while enriching their educations. Students either pay their normal Buffalo State tuition, or pay tuition at the host campus as if they were residents. Room and meal costs are paid at the host campus, and travel is the responsibility of the student. Courses are pre-approved prior to exchange and fit seamlessly into the students' Buffalo State program.

Specific options are available for honor students, resident assistants and students looking for international options not offered on the home campus. Students can select historically black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving campuses (including seven in Puerto Rico) or campuses larger or smaller than their own.
