The Western New York Network of English Teacher's Youth Voices Conference showcases the work young people have conducted in middle school and high school English classrooms throughout Western New York. The series seeks to reclaim space for the voices of youth and their English teachers, and to reposition English classrooms as learning spaces of meaning, purpose, and power in the Buffalo-Niagara region.

Registration begins at 3:30p.m. Presentations will begin at 4:00p.m. and dinner will be provided at 7:15p.m.

Attendees must register beforehand.

Student presentations at the Youth Voices Speaker Series have included short documentary style films, spoken word poetry, and TED Talks based on research done in their classrooms.

Past presentations have included, “Between Two Worlds: Identity and the Individual Experience of Immigration,” “Coloring in the Lines: Self-segregation in Black Culture,” and “New Perspectives: Young Men and the Critical Reading of Gender in Literature around the World.”

The conference gives young people the opportunity to showcase their thoughts, beliefs, and ideas about issues that are important to them and the larger community in which they live.
