Salvatore Pappoccio of the University of Buffalo will deliver a seminar, Higgs and Beyond. With the discovery of a new Higgs-like boson at the LHC, the standard model of particle physics is complete after several decades. However, many questions in particle physics remain open. The "simplest" Higgs mechanism is insufficient to explain the apparent discrepancy between the electroweak symmetry breaking scale and the Planck scale. This problem will drive the searches for new physics in the coming decades.
